Dear Fellow Ophthalmologists:Since 1963, the Miami Ophthalmological Society has served our community. I would like to take this opportunity to extend our invitation to join your colleagues in sharing ideas, learning new techniques and discussing clinical practice issues.

A variety of ophthalmologic topics are offered at our seminars. We offer 5-6 meetings each academic year, featuring outstanding speakers, presenting you the latest developments in their sub-specialties. Dinner and good conversation with your colleagues follows each meeting.

Letter from Dr. Alana L. Grajewski, Executive Director 1995-2007

July 14, 2007

Dear MOS Member,

Over the years our society has grown in number and has held a steady course towards our goal as an educational society of community and university based ophthalmologists. When I was first asked to assume the role of Executive Director I wasn’t quiet sure what that would entail, but I can tell you I never thought I would do the job for 12 years or that it would be so much fun! But all good things come to an end and it is time for me to go. Before leaving I want to emphasize where we are today as an organization.

At its origin, the society was carried around Miami in cardboard boxes from office to office depending on the current President. Today the Miami Ophthalmology Society has a home at The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. The MOS is now a tax-exempt educational organization. Our Society sponsors various named lectureships, dinner programs with subspecialty lectures, and we have begun offering category 1 CME for our focused educational programs. Our web-site is frequently visited by both physicians and patients. We support the Residents and Fellows of Bascom Palmer, inviting them all to meetings without the expense of membership. We are the social framework for interaction between colleagues in private practice as well as in academic medicine. I have traveled about the country visiting other ophthalmologist in their community, and it is obvious that we work in an environment that offers the best there is in clinical medicine: from the sophisticated practitioner to the #1 Eye Hospital in the country – Miami has it all!

It has been great serving as your Executive Director and I hope the society continues to strengthen and grow. I look forward to seeing all of you at the next MOS meeting.

Alana L. Grajewski, M.D.
